- He that came forth first was red, and hairy like a skin: and his name was called Esau. Immediately the other coming forth, held his brother's foot in his hand: and therefore he was called Jacob. Gen. 25:25

- He came near to his father, and when he had felt him, Isaac said: The voice indeed is the voice of Jacob; but the hands, are the hands of Esau. Gen. 27:22
- He said: Art thou my son Esau? He answered: I am. Gen. 27:24
- Isaac had scarce ended his words, when, Jacob being now gone out abroad, Esau came, Gen. 27:30
- And Isaac said to him: Why! who art thou? He answered: I am thy firstborn son, Esau. Gen. 27:32
- Esau having heard his father's words, roared out with a great cry; and, being in a consternation, said: Bless me also, my father. Gen. 27:34
- And Esau said to him: Hast thou only one blessing, father? I beseech thee bless me also. And when he wept with a loud cry, Gen. 27:38
- Esau therefore always hated Jacob, for the blessing wherewith his father had blessed him; and he said in his heart: The days will come of the mourning for my father, and I will kill my brother Jacob. Gen. 27:41
- These things were told to Rebecca: and she sent and called Jacob, her son, and said to him: Behold Esau, thy brother, threateneth to kill thee. Gen. 27:42
- And Esau seeing that his father had blessed Jacob, and had sent him into Mesopotamia of Syria, to marry a wife thence; and that after the blessing he had charged him, saying: Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Chanaan: Gen. 28:6
- And he sent messengers before him to Esau, his brother, to the land of Seir, to the country of Edom: Gen. 32:3

- And Esau said: What are the droves that I met? He answered: That I might find favour before my lord. Gen. 33:8
- Esau answered: I beseech thee, that some of the people, at least, who are with me, may stay to accompany thee in the way. And he said: There is no necessity: I want nothing else but only to find favour, my lord, in thy sight. Gen. 33:15

- Duke Magdiel, duke Hiram: these are the dukes of Edom dwelling in the land of their government; the same is Esau, the father of the Edomites. Gen. 36:43
- And command thou the people, saying: You shall pass by the borders of your brethren the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, and they will be afraid of you. Dt. 2:4
- Take ye then good heed that you stir not against them. For I will not give you of their land so much as the step of one foot can tread upon, because I have given mount Seir to Esau, for a possession. Dt. 2:5
