And Jonathan said to the young man that bore his armour: Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised, it may be the Lord will do for us: because it is easy for the Lord to save either by many, or by few. 1 Ki. 14:6
And Jonathan said: Behold we will go over to these men. And when we shall be seen by them, 1 Ki. 14:8
And the men of the garrison spoke to Jonathan, and to his armourbearer, and said: Come up to us, and we will shew you a thing. And Jonathan said to his armourbearer: Let us go up, follow me: for the Lord hath delivered them into the hands of Israel. 1 Ki. 14:12
And Jonathan went up creeping on his hands and feet, and his armourbearer after him. And some fell before Jonathan, others his armourbearer slew as he followed him. 1 Ki. 14:13
And the first slaughter which Jonathan and his armourbearer made, was of about twenty men, within half an acre of land, which a yoke of oxen is wont to plough in a day. 1 Ki. 14:14
And Saul said to the people that were with him: Look, and see who is gone from us. And when they had sought, it was found that Jonathan and his armourbearer were not there. 1 Ki. 14:17
Moreover, the Hebrews that had been with the Philistines yesterday and the day before, and went up with them into the camp, returned to be with the Israelites, who were with Saul and Jonathan. 1 Ki. 14:21
But Jonathan had not heard when his father adjured the people: and he put forth the end of the rod, which he had in his hand, and dipt it in a honeycomb: and he carried his hand to his mouth, and his eyes were enlightened. 1 Ki. 14:27

And Jonathan stripped himself of the coat with which he was clothed, and gave it to David, and the rest of his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle. 1 Ki. 18:4
¤ And Saul spoke to Jonathan, his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David. But Jonathan, the son of Saul, loved David exceedingly. 1 Ki. 19:1
And Jonathan told David, saying: Saul, my father, seeketh to kill thee: wherefore look to thyself, I beseech thee, in the morning and thou shalt abide in a secret place, and shalt be hid. 1 Ki. 19:2
And Jonathan spoke good things of David to Saul, his father: and said to him: Sin not, O king, against thy servant, David, because he hath not sinned against thee, and his works are very good towards thee. 1 Ki. 19:4
And when Saul heard this, he was appeased with the words of Jonathan, and swore: As the Lord liveth, he shall not be slain. 1 Ki. 19:6
Then Jonathan called David, and told him all these words: and Jonathan brought in David to Saul, and he was before him, as he had been yesterday and the day before. 1 Ki. 19:7
¤ But David fled from Najoth, which is in Ramatha, and came and said to Jonathan: What have I done? what is my iniquity, and what is my sin against thy father, that he seeketh my life? 1 Ki. 20:1
And he swore again to David. And David said: Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thy sight, and he will say: Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved. But truly as the Lord liveth, and thy soul liveth, there is but one step (as I may say) between me and death. 1 Ki. 20:3
And Jonathan said to David: Whatsoever thy soul shall say to me, I will do for thee. 1 Ki. 20:4
And David said to Jonathan: Behold to morrow is the new moon, and I, according to custom, am wont to sit beside the king to eat: let me go then that I may be hid in the field till the evening of the third day. 1 Ki. 20:5
And Jonathan said: Far be this from thee: for if I should certainly know that evil is determined by my father against thee, I could do no otherwise than tell thee. 1 Ki. 20:9
And David answered Jonathan: Who shall bring me word, if thy father should answer thee harshly concerning me? 1 Ki. 20:10

Jonathan said to David: O Lord God of Israel, if I shall discover my father's mind, to morrow, or the day after, and there be any thing good for David, and I send not immediately to thee, and make it known to thee, 1 Ki. 20:12
May the Lord do so and so to Jonathan, and add still more. But if my father shall continue in malice against thee, I will discover it to thy ear, and will send thee away, that thou mayst go in peace, and the Lord be with thee, as he hath been with my father. 1 Ki. 20:13
Thou shalt not take away thy kindness from my house for ever, when the Lord shall have rooted out the enemies of David, every one of them from the earth, may he take away Jonathan from his house, and may the Lord require it at the hands of David's enemies. 1 Ki. 20:15
Jonathan therefore made a covenant with the house of David: and the Lord required it at the hands of David's enemies. 1 Ki. 20:16
And Jonathan swore again to David, because he loved him: for he loved him as his own soul. 1 Ki. 20:17
And Jonathan said to him: To morrow is the new moon, and thou wilt be missed: 1 Ki. 20:18
And when the king sat down upon his chair, (according to custom) which was beside the wall, Jonathan arose, and Abner sat by Saul's side, and David's place appeared empty. 1 Ki. 20:25
And when the second day after the new moon was come, David's place appeared empty again. And Saul said to Jonathan, his son: Why cometh not the son of Isai to meat neither yesterday, nor to day? 1 Ki. 20:27
And Jonathan answered Saul: He asked leave of me earnestly to go to Bethlehem. 1 Ki. 20:28
Then Saul being angry against Jonathan, said to him: Thou son of a woman that is the ravisher of a man, do I not know that thou lovest the son of Isai to thy own confusion, and to the confusion of thy shameless mother? 1 Ki. 20:30
And Jonathan answering Saul, his father, said: Why shall he die? What hath he done? 1 Ki. 20:32
And Saul caught up a spear to strike him. And Jonathan understood that it was determined by his father to kill David. 1 Ki. 20:33
So Jonathan rose from the table in great anger, and did not eat bread on the second day after the new moon. For he was grieved for David, because his father had put him to confusion. 1 Ki. 20:34
And when the morning came, Jonathan went into the field according to the appointment with David, and a little boy with him. 1 Ki. 20:35
The boy therefore came to the place of the arrow which Jonathan had shot: and Jonathan cried after the boy, and said: Behold the arrow is there further beyond thee. 1 Ki. 20:37
And Jonathan cried again after the boy, saying: Make haste speedily, stand not. And Jonathan's boy gathered up the arrows, and brought them to his master: 1 Ki. 20:38
And he knew not at all what was doing: for only Jonathan and David knew the matter. 1 Ki. 20:39
Jonathan therefore gave his arms to the boy, and said to him: Go, and carry them into the city. 1 Ki. 20:40
And Jonathan said to David: Go in peace: and let all stand that we have sworn both of us in the name of the Lord, saying: The Lord be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed for ever. And David arose, and departed: and Jonathan went into the city. 1 Ki. 20:42
And Jonathan, the son of Saul, arose, and went to David, into the wood, and strengthened his hands in God: and he said to him: 1 Ki. 23:16

And the king consented: and he wrote letters to Jonathan of all these things, to this effect. 1 Ma. 11:29
King Demetrius to his brother, Jonathan, and to the nation of the Jews, greeting. 1 Ma. 11:30
Now, therefore, see that thou make a copy of these things, and let it be given to Jonathan, and set upon the holy mountain, in a conspicuous place. 1 Ma. 11:37
And Jonathan sent to king Demetrius, desiring that he would cast out them that were in the castle in Jerusalem, and those that were in the strong holds: because they fought against Israel. 1 Ma. 11:41
And Demetrius sent to Jonathan, saying: I will not only do this for thee, and for thy people, but I will greatly honour thee, and thy nation, when opportunity shall serve. 1 Ma. 11:42
And Jonathan sent him three thousand valiant men to Antioch: and they came to the king, and the king was very glad of their coming. 1 Ma. 11:44
And he falsified all whatsoever he had said, and alienated himself from Jonathan, and did not reward him according to the benefits he had received from him, but gave him great trouble. 1 Ma. 11:53
And young Antiochus wrote to Jonathan, saying: I confirm thee in the high priesthood, and I appoint thee ruler over the four cities, and to be one of the king's friends. 1 Ma. 11:57
Then Jonathan went forth, and passed through the cities beyond the river, and all the forces of Syria gathered themselves to him to help him, and he came to Ascalon, and they met him honourably out of the city. 1 Ma. 11:60
And the men of Gaza made supplication to Jonathan, and he gave them the right hand: and he took their sons for hostages, and sent them to Jerusalem: and he went through the country, as far as Damascus. 1 Ma. 11:62
And Jonathan heard that the generals of Demetrius were come treacherously to Cades, which is in Galilee, with a great army, purposing to remove him from the affairs of the kingdom. 1 Ma. 11:63
And Jonathan and his army encamped by the water of Genesar, and before it was light they were ready in the plain of Asor. 1 Ma. 11:67
And all that were on Jonathan's side fled, and none was left of them, but Mathathias, the son of Absalom, and Judas, the son of Calphi, chief captain of the army. 1 Ma. 11:70
And Jonathan rent his garments, and cast earth upon his head, and prayed. 1 Ma. 11:71
And Jonathan turned again to them to battle, and he put them to flight, and they fought. 1 Ma. 11:72
And there fell of the aliens in that day three thousand men: and Jonathan returned to Jerusalem. 1 Ma. 11:74
¤ And Jonathan saw that the time served him, and he chose certain men, and sent them to Rome, to confirm and to renew the amity with them: 1 Ma. 12:1
And they went to Rome, and entered into the senate house, and said: Jonathan, the high priest, and the nation of the Jews, have sent us to renew the amity, and alliance, as it was before. 1 Ma. 12:3
And this is a copy of the letters which Jonathan wrote to the Spartans: 1 Ma. 12:5
Jonathan, the high priest, and the ancients of the nation, and the priests, and the rest of the people of the Jews, to the Spartans, their brethren, greeting. 1 Ma. 12:6
Now Jonathan heard that the generals of Demetrius were come again with a greater army than before to fight against him. 1 Ma. 12:24
And when the sun was set, Jonathan commanded his men to watch, and to be in arms all night long ready to fight, and he set sentinels round about the camp. 1 Ma. 12:27
And the enemies heard that Jonathan and his men were ready for battle: and they were struck with fear and dread in their heart: and they kindled fires in their camp. 1 Ma. 12:28
But Jonathan, and they that were with him, knew it not till the morning: for they saw the lights burning. 1 Ma. 12:29
And Jonathan pursued after them, but overtook them not: for they had passed the river Eleutherus. 1 Ma. 12:30
And Jonathan turned upon the Arabians, that are called Zabadeans: and he defeated them, and took the spoils of them. 1 Ma. 12:31
And Jonathan came back, and called together the ancients of the people; and he took a resolution with them to build fortresses in Judea, 1 Ma. 12:35
Fearing lest Jonathan would not suffer him, but would fight against him: he sought to seize upon him, and to kill him. So he rose up and came to Bethsan. 1 Ma. 12:40
And Jonathan went out to meet him with forty thousand men chosen for battle, and came to Bethsan. 1 Ma. 12:41
Now when Tryphon saw that Jonathan came with a great army, he durst not stretch forth his hand against him. 1 Ma. 12:42
And he said to Jonathan: Why hast thou troubled all the people, whereas we have no war? 1 Ma. 12:44
And Jonathan believed him, and did as he said: and sent away his army, and they departed into the land of Juda: 1 Ma. 12:46
Now as soon as Jonathan entered into Ptolemais, they of Ptolemais shut the gates of the city, and took him: and all them that came in with him they slew with the sword. 1 Ma. 12:48
Then Tryphon sent an army and horsemen into Galilee, and into the great plain, to destroy all Jonathan's company. 1 Ma. 12:49
But they, when they understood that Jonathan, and all that were with him, were taken and slain, encouraged one another, and went out ready for battle. 1 Ma. 12:50
Whereupon they all came peaceably into the land of Juda and they bewailed Jonathan, and them that had been with him, exceedingly: and Israel mourned with great lamentation. 1 Ma. 12:52
And they answered with a loud voice, saying: Thou art our leader in the place of Judas, and Jonathan, thy brother: 1 Ma. 13:8
And he sent Jonathan, the son of Absalom, and with him a new army, into Joppe, and he cast out them that were in it, and himself remained there. 1 Ma. 13:11
And Tryphon removed from Ptolemais with a great army, to invade the land of Juda, and Jonathan was with him in custody. 1 Ma. 13:12
And when Tryphon understood that Simon was risen up in the place of his brother, Jonathan, and that he meant to join battle with him, he sent messengers to him, 1 Ma. 13:14
Saying: We have detained thy brother, Jonathan, for the money that he owed in the king's account, by reason of the affairs which he had the management of. 1 Ma. 13:15
So he sent the children and the hundred talents and he lied, and did not let Jonathan go. 1 Ma. 13:19
And when he approached to Bascama, he slew Jonathan and his sons there. 1 Ma. 13:23
And Simon sent, and took the bones of Jonathan, his brother, and buried them in Modin, the city of his fathers. 1 Ma. 13:25
And it was heard at Rome, and as far as Sparta, that Jonathan was dead: and they were very sorry. 1 Ma. 14:16
They wrote to him in tables of brass, to renew the friendship and alliance which they had made with Judas and with Jonathan, his brethren. 1 Ma. 14:18
And Jonathan gathered together his nation, and was made their high priest, and he was laid to his people. 1 Ma. 14:30
And all the priests made prayer, while the sacrifice was consuming, Jonathan beginning, and the rest answering. 2 Ma. 1:23
So he appointed his brethren captains over each division of his army; Simon, and Joseph, and Jonathan, giving to each one fifteen hundred men. 2 Ma. 8:22
